Kitchen Renovation Burke VA

Forty-Year-Old Kitchens in Neighborhoods Worth Staying In

Burke was built as a commuter suburb in the 1970s and 80s, and it has aged better than its kitchens. The colonials, split-levels and townhomes of Burke Centre, Lake Braddock, Longwood Knolls and Burke Cove still carry the era’s kitchen thinking: dark cabinet boxes, a fluorescent ceiling fixture, fragmented counters and a wall between the cook and everyone else.

Families stay in Burke for the schools, the VRE and Burke Lake Park, which makes the kitchen the one room worth bringing up to date. A remodel here fixes the plan first, corrected work triangle, storage designed around what you own, an opened wall where the house allows, and then the finish: cabinetry, stone and lighting at the level the house deserves.

We remodel kitchens throughout Burke, Virginia (ZIP 22015) and the surrounding southern Fairfax County communities.

Kitchen Remodeling Company Burke

Value Where It Counts, Quality Where It Shows

EA Home Design has completed nearly 2,000 remodels across Northern Virginia since 2009, holds 28 design awards and four national wins, including the 2026 Möbel National Award for Best Kitchen Design, and is a licensed Virginia Class A contractor (#2705157182), fully insured.

For most Burke homes the smart money goes into quality semi-custom cabinetry with proper storage design rather than custom sizing the room does not need, and we say so during design. Where a wall should come out, our lead designer, a civil engineer by training, sizes the beam and our in-house crew builds it, permitted and inspected.

Our showroom at 44225 Mercure Circle in Sterling is about 35 minutes from Burke via the Fairfax County Parkway; one planned visit usually settles cabinetry, stone and hardware.

Kitchen Remodel Process Burke

Conservancy Rules Checked, County Permit Filed

We begin with a free consultation at your Burke home: measurements, a look at the wall between kitchen and family room, the panel and the drains, and a conversation about how you cook and host. You receive a detailed 3D design of the new kitchen at no cost.

After you approve the design, we select materials together in our Sterling showroom and lock the budget and schedule. Burke is unincorporated Fairfax County, so structural, electrical and plumbing changes are permitted through Fairfax County Land Development Services. Interior kitchen work does not need Burke Centre Conservancy approval, but if a window or exterior element is involved in a cluster home we prepare that submission too.

Our in-house crew then builds in one continuous run, typically about eight weeks for a full remodel, with every cabinet and appliance ordered before demolition. You pay 30% down to begin, as Virginia law requires.

A 1980s Kitchen Taken Down to the Studs

The photos on this page come from our completed project in Herndon, a 1980s home with the same kitchen DNA as Burke’s: dark boxes, fragmented counters, appliances wedged wherever the plan left room. We took it to the studs and rebuilt it with storage-first cabinetry, continuous stone countertops, updated appliances in a corrected work triangle and lighting that finally matches how the room is used, in roughly eight weeks. Read the Herndon kitchen remodel case study for the before and after.

“Best in business! Ali and Kevin were so responsive and followed up to make sure the kitchen remodeling was done perfectly.” Elnaz A., verified EA Home Design kitchen remodel client.

We work throughout Burke, including Burke Centre, Lake Braddock, Longwood Knolls, Burke Cove, Cherry Run and the streets off Old Keene Mill Road and Burke Centre Parkway, and in neighboring Fairfax Station, Springfield, West Springfield, Kings Park and Fairfax. Is a full kitchen remodel worth it in Burke's price range?

Yes, when it is scaled to the house. Burke buyers compare dozens of similar 1970s and 80s homes, and an updated kitchen is the clearest separator, while an over-built one does not return its cost.

We design to that line, quality semi-custom cabinetry, stone and corrected layout, and tell you during design where spending more stops paying back.

The free 3D design lets you compare options before committing a dollar.

Usually. Most Burke colonials and split-levels have a partition or load-bearing wall there, and opening it is the change families ask for first.

Our engineer sizes the beam, we pull the Fairfax County structural permit, and the framing, electrical and drywall are all our own crew.

In split-levels we also check the half-flight sight lines so the opened kitchen connects to the right room.

Not for interior work. Cabinetry, layout changes and wall removal inside the house do not go through the Conservancy.

If the project touches a window, vent or anything visible outside a cluster home, the Conservancy’s architectural standards apply and we prepare the submission.

County permits for structural, electrical and plumbing work apply either way, and we file those too.

A full remodel typically takes about eight weeks of construction; the Herndon project on this page ran roughly that. Same-layout updates finish in five to seven weeks.

Wall removal adds engineering and inspection time, usually one to two weeks.

Everything is ordered before demolition, so the schedule holds.

We measure your Burke kitchen, check the wall, panel and plumbing, and talk through how the room needs to work for your family.

You then receive a 3D design at no cost, showing the corrected layout, cabinetry and lighting before anything is ordered.

Material selections follow at our Sterling showroom, one planned visit for most Burke clients.

Yes. We are a licensed Virginia Class A contractor (#2705157182) with comprehensive insurance on every project, and Fairfax County permits are our daily routine.

Our lead designer holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and the AKBD credential.

Nearly 2,000 Northern Virginia remodels since 2009 and 28 design awards back that up.
