This Maryland kitchen and laundry room remodel was a full-scale transformation designed to open the layout, improve functionality, and create a more custom, high-end finish throughout the home. The project included demolition of the existing cabinetry, removal of the pantry walls, and removal of the wall between the kitchen and sunroom. To make the new layout feel seamless, the sunroom floor was raised to match the kitchen level, and structural work was completed with engineer plans, beam installation, and new support posts.
A big part of this remodel was bringing in more light and improving the connection between spaces. Five sunroom windows were replaced with vinyl picture windows featuring a black exterior and white interior, and the exterior door was replaced with a new French door in the same black-outside, white-inside finish. The project also included siding repairs, insulation, framing adjustments, and interior and exterior trim work to complete the new openings properly.
The cabinetry in both the kitchen and laundry room features Crystal Premium Custom Cabinetry. The main cabinets were built from the Crystal Encore / Linea collection with Lansdale doors, customized 15-inch-deep wall cabinets, and J-channel base cabinets. The bar area also used Crystal Encore / Linea cabinetry with Lansdale doors, along with aluminum metal door wall cabinets for a sleek modern accent. For the island and accent cabinetry, the design used Crystal Encore Wood/Substrate cabinetry with Muskoka slab doors in a Light Oak finish, adding warmth and contrast to the space.
For the countertop and backsplash, this project used Dekton Onirika Neural in a 2 cm thickness with a Velvet finish. This material gives the kitchen a clean, luxurious appearance while also offering durability for everyday use. Using the same Dekton material on both the countertops and backsplash helped create a cohesive and modern design throughout the room.
The flooring was upgraded with Happy Floor Contempo Grey/Natural 15 x 30 tile, installed wall to wall, including under the cabinetry. The installation included subfloor preparation, underlayment, durock, setting materials, grout, transitions, and additional structural support from underneath to properly handle the large-format tile. This gave the finished space a strong, continuous foundation with a clean and elegant look.
Behind the walls, the kitchen and laundry room were fully updated with major electrical and plumbing improvements. The project included 20 recessed lights, LED under-cabinet lighting, 3 pendant lights, new switches and outlets, appliance circuits, island outlets, and additional wiring for the refrigerator, freezer, oven, warming drawer, wine cooler, and second dishwasher. Plumbing upgrades included relocating the sink plumbing, moving dishwasher and refrigerator lines, adding a new gas line for the range, venting for the new hood, garbage disposal installation, and connecting a make-up air valve to the exterior.
Additional finishing work included installation of a pocket door between the laundry room and kitchen, painting of the kitchen and laundry room walls, ceilings, and trims, and extra detail work such as front door reframing, trim improvements, and touch-up items throughout the home. Altogether, this Maryland remodel shows how thoughtful planning, structural expertise, and premium material selections can completely transform a home into a more beautiful and functional living space.
